A 12-tonne section of the infamous “Big Dig” road tunnel in Boston collapsed last month, killing a female motorist.

The 3.5 mile long tunnel achieved notoriety in the US after exceeding its budget by more than $12bn during a build that was plagued by corruption scandals and poor planning.

A criminal investigation has been launched into the accident by state investigators.
